The Cowboy Church Blog is up and running!!!

Some of you may be wondering why we need a blog…The answer is simple “Real”.

We, who use words to teach, preach & sing week after week; for you…but ultimately for Him…want more than anything to be authentic, genuine and faithful…we want to be “real” before you and before Him.

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the word was God”. John 1:1

The Life Application Study Bible says of John 1:1 “What Jesus taught and what He did are tied inseparably to who He is…fully human and fully God”

What we teach and preach are tied to who we are “fully human”, fallible, imperfect and prone to mistakes and lots of them. Flowing throughout, however, is the Word who is perfect and holly. Our desire for this blog is that God would use our words to encourage, inspire and uplift those who are living the “real life” on this planet.

As we strive to be authentic and real before you, without hypocrisy and pretence, you will discover lives that are… messy, broken and struggling.

But always…always…there is grace and there is mercy.

In the midst of “real life”…His grace and His mercy.

And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work: 2 Corinthians 9:8

February's Word from Denah..

An article on Fox News described how an actress lost weight for an award winning role.  Her diet consisted of only maple Syrup and lemon juice for two weeks. Yuck!  Sweet and Sour mixed together is an unusual and unhealthy diet.  However, it reminded me of a poem I read several years ago.

"Two natures beat within my breast.

The one is Curses and the other is Blessed.

One is Love and the other is Hate.

The one I feed will dominate"

Author Unknown

There exists within each of us the desire to do good and the desire for evil.  They both vie for our hearts.  The apostle Paul understood and experienced this paradox.  He wrote in Romans 7:15 "I do not understand what I do.  For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do".  Both natures beat within us, vying for the passions of our lives.  The good and the bad are waging war within each of us.

Without a doubt this is a daily battle, so how do we help the good side win?  The author of the above poem wrote that the one we feed will dominate.  So if we feed the "Cursed" with a steady diet of selfishness, unholy television programs and the worlds characteristics it will dominate and our lives will reflect the evil within us.  We, like Paul, will do the things we don't wish to do and won't do the things we want to do.

However, if we feed the "Blessed" by reading the Word, listening to wholesome music and messages and "hang out" with encouraging friends, we will begin to see a difference in our lives.  A difference that causes us to do the things of holiness and righteousness...the things that are a blessing to others and bring glory to God.

Which nature are you feeding?
